Ray floret

In the Asteraceae, a floret that is located along the circumference of the flower head, and possesses a widened and somewhat flattened, 0- to 4-lobed corolla.  Ray florets may be pistillate and fertile, neuter, sterile, or bisexual.  Ray florets occur only in radiate flower heads. (The term ligule is also used in some texts to refer to ray florets.)
