Ray / Ray floret

.

.

In the Composite family, a ray floret (a "ray") is located along the circumference of the flower head, and possesses a widened and somewhat flattened, 0- to 4-lobed corolla.  Ray florets may be pistillate and fertile, neuter or bisexual.  Ray florets occur only in radiate flower heads. (The term ligule is also used in some texts to refer to ray florets, but not here.)
