Plants of waste places and weedy landscapes around buildings.  Flowers May to October.  Not native.

Annual.  Taprooted.  Stems often with "cobwebby" hairs when young.  Typical height is 6 to 16 inches.

Inflorescences consist of small axillary and terminal clusters of flower heads.

Flower heads are discoidRay florets are lacking.  Disc florets are bisexual and fertile; corollas are yellow.  Involucral bracts are of even length, sometimes black-tipped.  Bases of involucres are surrounded by a series very small, black-tipped bractlets.

Basal leaves may be present at flowering.  Stem leaves are alternate, oblanceolate to obovate in general outline, irregularly lobed (often appearing like small oak leaves).
