Perennials.  Rhizomatous or fibrous-rooted.  Typical plant height is 1 to 2+ ft. ( 3 to 6+ dm)

Inflorescences are flat-topped. 

Flower heads are radiateRay florets are yellow, pistillate and fertile.  Disc florets are bisexual and fertile, the corollas yellow. Involucral bracts are more or less equal in length, often partly purple-tinged.

Plants of wet meadows, swamps, fens.  Flowers early to mid-summer.  Native.
