Inflorescences are corymb-like.  Peduncles are with few or no stipitate glandular hairs.

Flower heads are ligulate, with 30-80+ florets per head.  All florets are bisexual and fertile.  Corollas are yellow.

Basal leaves are typically not present at flowering.  Stem leaves are narrowly elliptic to lanceolate, covered with stiff, conical hairs.

Plants of woods or open woods, roadsides and other disturbed sites.  Flowers July to August.  Native..

Perennials.  Sap is milky white.  Stems may be glabrous or pubescent with short, stiff, conical hairs and sometimes also with stellate hairs.  Typical height is from 2 to 2.5 ft. (6 to 7.5 dm).
