Perennials.  Typical height is from 3 to 4 feet.

Flower heads are discoid.  Ray florets are lacking.  Disc florets are pink to whitish, tubular, bisexual and fertile.

Basal leaves are usually lacking at flowering.

Plants of dry to mesic, rich woodlands and forests.  Flowers  August to September.  Native.  Our plants are:
