Perennials.  Typical height is from 3 to 5+ feet.

Flower heads are of discoid.  Ray florets are lacking.  Disc florets are pink to magenta, tubular, bisexual and fertile.

Basal leaves are usually absent at fowering.

Plants of wet open areas, such as roadside ditches, low meadows, stream banks, pond margins.  Flowers August to September.  Native.  Our plants are:
