Perennial.  Rhizomatous, forming coloniesTypical height is 2 to 6 inches.

Inflorescences are simple, with a single flower head borne atop a largely leafless stem.

Flower heads are radiateRay florets are white, pistillate and fertile.  (Fresh ray corollas are often pink on the undersides, becoming white at maturity.)  Disc florets are bisexual and fertile, corollas yellow.

Basal leaves are present at flowering; obovate or spoon-shaped, rounded at the tip, shallowly and irregularly toothed.  Stem leaves, if present, are extremely  small.
